• As a veteran, I want to ensure that our veterans are treated with dignity and respect and receive the benefits they were promised.
  • As a Missouri Western Graduate, I want to ensure that the University receives its fair share of the higher education budget.

  • As a parent of former students and now a grandparent of students in the St. Joseph School District, I want to make certain that our schools are treated fairly in the budget process.

I have lived my entire life in Saint Joseph.  I was born at Sister’s Hospital at 10th & Powell. My father was Michael Conway.  He worked as the foreman of the loading dock at Goetz brewery for 33 years.  Mom, Genevieve Conway, met Dad while working as a secretary at the brewery.  They married in 1944.  Mom later worked for over thirty years at Einbender’s Apparel on 8th St. which later moved downtown.  Our family home for my first 23 years was at 16th & Edmond.

I went to Edison and Cathedral Elementary School and later graduated from Christian Brothers in 1965.  My first job, other than throwing newspapers on our 11th Street route with my brother, Mike, was as a playground supervisor for the City of Saint Joseph during the Summer Youth Program at Edison Goetz Pearl BrewerySchool.  I later sold shoes at Einbender’s and worked the opening of the East Hills Mall in 1965 at Butler’s Shoe Store.  In 1966, I was hired by the then-Pearl Brewery where I worked while attending Saint Joseph Junior College.

In 1968, I was drafted into the U.S. Army and after training was sent to Vietnam where I served with the 2/12th Infantry in the 25th Infantry Division.  I was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned to finish my education at Missouri Western and to continue with my job at the brewery.  I graduated with a B.S. Degree in Social Science with a major in political science and acquired a position with the Missouri Division of Employment Security on South 7th Street.  Buchanan County CourthouseI entered into politics in 1983 when I was elected County Clerk of Buchanan County and am now completing my seventh four-year term.
